What is your company employee experience?
What is your company "employee experience"? The day in/day out existence of employees and how it makes them feel? It is extremely important to understand its impact, particularly on your high performers.
Biologist Dr. Iain Couzin's research, says:
1. The brain simultaneously breaks the world down into a series of binary decisions.
2. Close to each critical bifurcation the system becomes extremely sensitive to differences among options.
3. Decision timing is directly related to proximity to the decision point.
Think about what this means. Employees have a level of happiness made up of reality-the job (employer, tasks, title, etc.) and life (home, family, friends, etc.), their mental model of this reality, and of an alternate reality. All the while, business leadership and management are adding benefits, environmental factors, policies and rewards that add or subtract from employee happiness. The less impactful the employer influence, or more negative its impact, the more likely the employee is to visualize an alternate reality "somewhere else". The more they feel momentum moving them towards the alternate reality, the more likely they are to see differences between the new existence versus the current one.
Over time, these differences will be enough to trigger their decision to move.
